Guadalupe National Park
March 22, 2015
Ruth and I climbed the tallest mountain in Texas, Guadalupe Peak. It was a good climb and a heck of a hike.
The Guadalupe Peak trail is really busy, there were people all over the place! The trail climbs quickly from the parking lot for the first couple of miles. We had heavy packs and got a late start so we struggled a bit in the heat.
We had decided to stay in the backcountry for the night, so we set up camp and took a break just below the final push to the summit. The campsites were beautiful but open to the elements.
After the break at camp we made the final push to the summit. We had much lighter loads so the climbing was quick. There is a really nice monument on top placed by American Airlines. We took a quick nap, snapped a ton of pictures and had some snacks on top. We got back to camp early and enjoyed laying in the high altitude sun. A great day!!
