La Brea Tar Pits and Downtown
3-5-15
Ruth and I started off our vacation with a quick trip to the La Brea Tar Pits. I was probably around 5 years old the last time I visited, and I was surprised by how small the whole park and the museum was. I guess everything looks giant when you are 5... Anyway, we had a good time walking around and exploring the outside exhibits.
One interesting part of the Tar Pits was Project 23. When they were building the new parking garage they found a bunch of fossil deposits on the dig site. Instead of delaying the construction, they boxed up huge cubes of earth and moved them to another location. There were a total of 23 boxes, and they are working their way through them.
We explored the grounds and enjoyed the gardens and sculptures.
Our last stop at the Tar Pits was the Museum. There were some really interesting exhibits, the skelaton's were my favorite.
We finished up by walking around the Civic Center and checking out some of the public art displays and sculpture gardens.
