Tahoe Rim Trail 2014
Part 1: Echo Lake to Tahoe City
Our hike started with Ruth dropping us off at the Echo Lake trail head. The weather was perfect, our preparation was complete, backpacks were slung. All that was left were the goodbyes and to start walking!!
We started our walk past Echo Lake and up to Lake Aloha where we stopped for a snack and gear check before continuing our climb towards Gilmore Lake.
Desolation is such an amazing place, so many great treasures to discover.
We got to Gilmore Lake pretty early and decided to stop for the day and cook up a nice dinner. After setting up camp, we lounged around and reorganized our gear before heading to bed early.
Getting an early start, we climbed up to Dick's Pass enjoying the sights along the way
Dick's Pass is a spectacular place, great views is all directions. On our way up to the top we met a couple of fellow hikers that we ended up walking with for the rest of the day.
We passed a lot of beautiful lakes on our way to the Ludlow Hut for a good nights sleep and a warm fire.
After leaving the hut we hiked up to Barker Pass. The terrain changed to a much more arid environment and water became a bit more scarce. There was an ultra marathon going on and we passed numerous runners early in the day. We climbed to the top of Barker Peak and then made our way towards Tahoe City.
We finally made it to Tahoe City!! With the first 50 miles down, we celebrated by meeting Ruth in town for a good breakfast. After breakfast we broke down our resupply box and got packed up for the next leg of the journey!
