Leaving Diamond Lake, I drove north to Bend, OR. This city had changed dramatically since I was last here about 15 years ago. The mill district is a beautiful new shopping area with a giant REI, super nice! I did a bit of exploring around Newberry Volcanic Park and hiked into the Lave River Cave, an amazing lava tube that dwarfs anything around Lassen. Spectacular!! I got a hotel room in town and cleaned up and did some laundry. Also had a delicious at Deschutes Brewery.
