Grand Canyon of the Tuolumne
Backpacking Trip
Day 1
After getting home early from Oregon, James and I had a couple of days to kill before we started the Tahoe Rim Trail. We decided to head to Yosemite and see what back country permits we could get. We visited the Ranger and took their suggestion of hiking the Grand Canyon of the Tuolumne. WHAT A TRIP! We were both in awe of the scenery on this trip, it should be on everyone's Life List.
The hike began on the Glen Aulin trail. Our first stop was Soda Springs, just a short way from the trailhead. It was an interesting stop and we tasted the water before heading into the Sierra Club museum.
We quickly picked up and started following the Tuolumne River as it meanders through the upper reaches of Yosemite. The trail follows the river all the way to the Glen Aulin High Sierra Camp. There are a bunch of really nice cascades and waterfalls along this first section of trail.
We had a nice lunch at Glen Aulin then continued on the trail. The sheer beauty of this canyon is amazing. There are seemingly endless waterfalls and granite walls. Amazing. We walked until we found a nice place to camp and enjoyed a nice fire, wine and some good music.
