John Muir Trail 2012 Day 8 7-21-12
I was in low sprits this morning. I woke up with little improvement to my feet, I could barely walk to use the restroom. I had James tape up my feet to attempt to continue, but to no avail. I made it about 100 yards and my feet were bleeding. I had to make a decision, I was 5 miles from the car. Did I continue and push through or take the safe way back. I decided to play it safe and attempt to meet back up with James at Mammoth Lakes. The walk back to the car was excruciating and took most of the day. I took all of the extra gear I could carry to lighten James' load, so I was carrying close to 60 pounds. I made it back to the car by putting my head down and pushing through the pain. I spent the next 2 days trying to heal back at home, but it became very clear that my trip was over.
