Cambria 2012- Day 3
May 8, 2012
We got a late start to our day, enjoying our room for as long as possible. I took advantage of the patio and sunshine, relaxing in the cool coastal air. The gardens are amazing, and I took a bunch of pictures. We got on the road at noon and headed south on Hwy 1.
A couple of miles south of Cambria is the cute little town of Harmony. There is a really nice wedding chapel and glass shop in town, along with a couple antique shops. I gave the town kitty some love.
Our next stop was Morro Bay, and a look at the Morro Rock. Morro Rock is 581 feet tall and has been an important navigation aid for sailors and travelers since 1542. We walked around the downtown and waterfront exploring the shops. We then drove out to the waterfront to get a better view of the rock.
With a planned visit to Sequoia National Park scuttled by a sore knee, we visited the tiny community of Three Rivers just outside the park.
An interesting piece of history lies just outside of town. The Keweah Colony was established in 1886 by a group of utopian socialists. It only lasted a few years, with internal disputes and the loss of their timber claims (not to mention the fact that socialism always fails) dooming it to failure. A small post office and tiny community are all thats left.
The highlight of our visit was a stop at Reimer's. What an awesome little find this was. We enjoyed some ice cream and a walk around town.
